Things to avoid in early pregnancy. Besides things like smoking, drinking alcohol and staying away from drugs, there aren’t difficult rules concerning early pregnancy stages. These things listed below are for the protection of your baby.

Early in your pregnancy try to avoid the following

CERTAIN FOODS

Try and avoid the following if possible during the early stages of your pregnancy as it could spell trouble.

  • Raw meat and shellfish:
  • Deli meat:
  • Fish with high levels of mercury:
  • Smoked seafood:
  • Raw eggs:
  • Soft cheeses:
  • Unpasteurized dairy:

There are various reasons to avoid these: Some may be contaminated, others stand a chance of getting you infected

WET PAINT ESPECIALLY OIL PAINTS

We paints can be toxic for you if you are newly pregnant, if the room, or item needs to be painted, get someone else. Even though we cannot tell the extent of toxic in new paint, it is advised that you take precaution.

SAUNA OR JACUZZI

Since a Jacuzzi or a Sauna will increase your body temperature, you will want to be careful on how to use these during pregnancy especially in the early stages. This is because even, though there isn’t enough research to prove, it is advisable to avoid them because as your temperature goes up, more blood will flow close to your skin to help you cool down. This means less blood to your internal organs which might be detrimental to your health.

So take care of yourself especially in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

CAFFEINE

Since caffeine is a stimulant, it automatically means taking caffeine while pregnant will shoot up your blood pressure, increase your visit to the washroom and then also shoot up the rate at which your heat is beating. It has also been reported that caffeine can make its way into the placenta and reach your unborn baby. This may not be good for him or her. For this and many reasons, protect your baby by staying away from caffeine

ALL X-RAYS AND RADIOLOGY TESTS

If you are to take any type of x-ray test, please tell the practitioner that you are pregnant. The test, if not a mandatory one will be suspended till you have given birth.

SMOKING

Easily the top of the list, this is something you should avoid all together, do not even go close to people who are smoking as second hand smoking can be dangerous for you unborn baby too. This could cause the following:

  • A loss of your pregnancy (miscarriage)
  • Delivering before the due date
  • Giving birth to a baby below 2.5kg
  • Your baby could have learning impairment

ALCOHOL

This could also pass for the top of the list if not second. Alcohol will damage bother your internal organs and those of your baby as it can permeate your placenta.

Alcohol can cause the following:

  • Delivering before your time
  • Damage to your baby’s brain
  • Your baby could be born with several defects
  • You could have a miscarriage
  • Your baby could be born dead

So there are several other things you should be careful about. But these are the top most ones
