GDE Online Application for Grade 8 2027-2028

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) Online Application for Admissions to Grade 1 and 8 2027 academic year and placement will be available from 24 July to 29 August 2026. Therefore, if you want to apply, you will need to register on the GDE online admissions website at www.gdeadmissions.gov.za and complete the application during the prescribe period.

Parents will be notified between 16 October 2026 – 31 October 2026 of successful/unsuccessful applications.

Acceptance/rejection of the placement offer made must be done on the GDE admission portal, by the parent, within seven days of the offer being made.

NOTE: the application is made with a home address whereby a maximum of three schools may be chosen; thereafter, the system will allow you to choose other schools under a different criterion.

In addition, to the online application, we request that you complete the Grade 8 2027 Parent Information Form, including all requested documents. This form can be downloaded from the website. The completed form, together
with all documents, must be delivered to security at the main gate of the school.

Application Dates for GDE Admission 2027

The application period for the 2027 academic year will open around 24 July 2026 and close around 29 August 2026.

How to Submit GDE Admissions Online 2027:

1. Go to www.gdeadmissions.gov.za
2. Register on the website to create a profile.
3. Select the “Home” application option
4. Enter your address correctly
5. Choose a minimum of three and a maximum of five schools

Important Notes:

Applications are processed exclusively through the online system during the open period. There is no “first come, first served” placement; it is based on criteria and school capacity. The GDE does not charge any fees for assistance with the application process. Be wary of scams that promise guaranteed placements for money. Assistance is available at Decentralised Walk-In Centres, all public schools, and District Offices.
