Benefits of seaweed. Seaweed comes in a wide variety of dishes and can be found especially in hotels across the globe. In temperate areas of the world, seaweeds or foods are not common, but are a delicacy for countries along the coast. In countries such as China, Japan, France and India, such foods are more common. They are so varied that it is almost impossible to list all of them. Let us find out what is contained in these foods that are made from weeds and herbs from the rocks and beneath the sea.

  • PROTECTIVE ANTIOXIDANTS ARE FOUND IN SEAWEEDS

The cells of our bodies need antioxidants to protect us from the damaging effects of free radicals. These antioxidants are found in a lot of foods, vegetables, fruits and nuts. Seaweeds however contains a good number of protective ones. This is the first thing that makes seaweeds very crucial for your body. ((Source 1).

This makes them less likely to damage your cells. What is more, if not checked, these free radicals will break you down as they cause a lot of chronic cases including diabetes and cancers. ((Source 2).

Apart from these protective antioxidants, seaweeds also have abundance of vitamins like vitamin E which is very beneficial to the body. Seaweed also has a lot of powerful compounds like flavonoids and carotenoids. Research has proven that these are able to protect your body cells from destruction. ((Source 3).

  • SEAWEED IS LOADED WITH IODINE FOR YOUR THYROID

The thyroids are very important for your body’s immune system. They are the ones that help you fight. They do so by putting out hormones that aid in the growth process. They support the reproduction system and then help you to heal destroyed cells in your body. (Source 4).

The thyroids produce hormones and they do this production with iodine. Whenever they lack iodine, they begin to malfunction and as a result, you feel the symptoms.  (Source 5). It is required that each day you take in at least 150 micro grams.

Thankfully, seaweed is able to take in high quantities of iodine from its abode, the sea.((Source 6).
